For younger students who are just beginning, I feel like it is my job to first and foremost get them excited about playing the drums. I like to provide a variety of methods for instruction. This includes three different forms of learning, Visual, Aural, and Kinesthetic. This is especially true for younger ages. Its important for me to engage all of the students senses while teaching since it is essential to play. Use technique and repertoire as a source of learning. Instruments: Piano Voice Drums Keyboard

For beginning piano students, I begin by teaching them the C major scale and many nursery rhyme songs that can be played at that key. I then elevate to simple blues and gospel songs in the Key of C for example, the C major blues. I will then teach C minor and the introductory song, Blue Bossa to acclimate students to the sound of C minor. Beginner students that seek to learn classical music will be introduced to Notation music theory from rhythm dictation, reading the grand staff and the introductory piece, Minuet in G, by Johann Sebastian Bach. When I attended the Governor's School for the Arts in Norfolk, VA for high school, I realized that music and singing would be my career path for life. A native of Seattle, Christine began her musical studies as a classically-trained trumpet player. Moving to Chicago and collaborating with jazz colleagues led her to pursuing a master’s degree in vocal jazz. She was accepted into one of the nation’s leading jazz institutions, the University of North Texas. There she focused on her new passion for singing, honing her skills in piano, songwriting, arranging, and improvisation.
