Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student find a love for music. Therefore it is my goal to teach students at there pace. I have been burned out before with music lessons and will definitely be avoiding that. I encourage by setting goals and helping you achieve them all while helping you discover a musical talent you may not have known existed. It will help you, the student, become a more competent musician and more inspired to practice your instrument even more. Read More

I am a fast paced, energetic, positive-reinforcement kind of teacher. I like lessons to be fun and productive no matter the ability level. It is my belief that EVERYONE can sing, you just have to practice. A typical lesson involves a 10-15 minute warm-up, depending on the length of the lesson. That is followed by working on the songs that a student has prepared for the week. I like to work on a variety of songs to prevent boredom and frustration if a song is proving to be difficult on a particular day. Read More

I play several instruments and love to play the saxophone. I played saxophone for a year at Oregon State University in the Jazz Combo 1988-89. I took a long 20 year break from music to be a mental health therapist. I have had more time in the past couple of years and have picked up several instruments to heal after recalling past trauma. I find music an excellent way to express my feelings and have been participating in local music jams throughout Oregon. Read More

The methods which I primarily use are the Piano Adventures and Alfred piano methods. I like them because they present the material in a logical, fun, and attractive way. I also supplement the method books with music that is tailored to each individual student. I am open to other methods if the student requests. For example, if a transfer student has been working in a different method, I am open to continuing in that method unless I feel that it does not mesh well with my own teaching styles and methods. As a teacher, I believe in supporting the student to be the best they can be with positive reinforcement rather than using pressure and guilt to make the student practice. My teaching philosophy stems from a couple of core values: 1. fostering curiosity & 2. Building the student's confidence as a student, artist, and human so that they may follow their curiosity in the direction of their dreams. Each human has a unique voice and it is their gift to share with the world. Read More
