Overview:
There is nothing more enjoyable in this world than sharing what you love. I have been teaching lessons for 8 years and have seen how infectious the joy of music can be. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Contemporary music: American Vernacular Studies in 2013. I have studied and performed in every American place (North and South) that you can imagine, played on cruise ships, and played in several different countries. I am currently working on a Master of Music: Jazz Studies degree from the U of O and play all over the Willamette Valley.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching lessons and teaching an elementary school band my senior year of high school in 2006. I encourage a regular practice schedule that includes journaling your practices. Though I may no play every instrument, my time in various ensembles as well as my experience writing and arranging music have given me insite to various instruments to answer questions that may arise.
METHODS USED
I begin with asking "What do you want to get from these lessons?" and start from there. I have a number a resources (books, videos, recordings, experience) to proceed through the various paths that one may chose. I try to think of music as a language. You are not born speaking english, just as your not born playing music. We learn our language by immersing ourselves in it and pick it up as we go. Just like learning our first language, the absolute most important skill to develop is listening.
LESSON STYLE
Everybody develops at their own pace. This makes the journaling process even more important. I ask to keep track of what you worked on, how it felt, how much time you spent on each subject, questions or interests it brought up, and goals you wish to strive for. This is a routine that I've found very helpfull for musicians of all ages and expeience levels. There are few things more satisfying than acheiving a goal you've reached and being recognized for it, this is a goal that I strive to complete with each and every student.
