Technique is tremendously important in order to execute the music. Classical music is the fundamental and first step a student needs to take in order to learn and perform music properly. For beginning students, I typically start with teaching the parts of the guitar and the string names. I then progress to the notes on each string and introduce some basic exercises for hand coordination. We can then progress through scales and chords and touching on some music theory. For more experienced players, learning songs and different techiques is beneficial. Always with an eye towards advancing some theory and introducing students to new ideas. Read More

It actually brings me joy to see my student have the moment where they start to understand what and why they are playing scales and reading music. I encourage my students to not get frustrated. there is a method, and it does not take long to recognize the methods, and how they fall together.
