I can still remember the joy I felt when I first started playing drums and my passion is helping people experience that joy. In my musical career, spanning 38 years, I have performed with varied groups including: drumset with The Road Runners Blues Band, Catfish and Paul Plumeri Blues Band; West African, Middle Eastern and Afro-Cuban percussion with Groove Merchant Drum Dance Ensemble; bodhran and bones with traditional Celtic bands Kintail, Cwn Annwn and Browne Jenkyn; and snare drum with The First Highland Watch of Pennsylvania and Rev War Re-enactors First NJ Volunteers. Teaching requires time and effort but it also needs to be fun, therefore my lessons have both components, while setting up short and long term goals we explore music in fun ways that allows for self expression and we stay focused by having a clear goal for every lesson. Having graduated from Oberlin College, studied at Berklee College of Music, toured as a keyboardist on a national hip hop tour, pursued a Kpop career in Seoul, produced and conceived of a music film in Cape Town, and currently through my teaching/composing/producing work here in New York City, I believe that my rich and diverse set of musical experiences have shaped a very hopeful and motivated musical perspective and sensibility, one which I hope to share. My teaching experience dates back to the 1980's where I have taught Music Classes involving singing of worship music in religious elementary schools as well as teaching music theory, and music history. I was also a preschool teacher and taught preschool music enrichment classes. After school hours I enjoy teaching in my own home music studio, but due to pandemic have now switched to online music lessons. Teaching the guitar or drums to my students is very rewarding for it allows me to share my passion for music, keep music alive where as sometimes music is not present enough in this world, and to see my students progress and shine as they smile when they achieve a new musical goal! I took classical piano lessons from the age of four to fourteen. After a brief break, I started playing keyboards in rock bands around Tokyo. In college, I became interested in jazz and composition. After graduating from Waseda University with a degree in social science, I started performing jazz around Tokyo.
