Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. From the second I was handed a clarinet on my 10th birthday, I knew that I wanted to spend my life playing music. I loved it so much that I even chose to go to music school on Saturdays (!!!) every week from 7th to 12th grade. I studied at the Eastman School of Music where I earned my Bachelor degree, and at Lynn Conservatory for my Masters. Every student is different, especially when it comes to vocal training, so I tailor my lesson plans according to each individual student's ability and needs. I begin with the basics of breath control and work to help each student find their natural voice. I use different vocal exercises to help improve tone and range and then incorporate what we've learned from those exercises into singing songs.
