I began teaching in 2003, right at the beginning of my college studies. I taught in several after school programs in upstate New York, and organized many student recitals. I encourage daily practice, as this gives students a chance to become comfortable with the violin much more quickly, and I make listening to music a part of each students normal routine so they can strengthen their desire to learn. Every student is different and has there own unique learning style, and I like to be able to structure each lesson to best fit the learning styles of the student. Every student learns and progresses at there own pace, and will adjust to the pace of every individual student. When I give students pieces, exercises, and examples to improve their skills, it is crucial that they not only enjoy what theyre playing but are able to apply it to other areas in their musical vocabulary. From my experience, I have noticed this excites the students the most because they are able to grasp the information in terms of how to play as opposed to what to play. I mix in ear-training with all of my students through different ways of connecting them to the music.
