As is often the case with classical music, strict or authoritarian teachers can stifle a student's creativity and passion for music. I love the harp and enjoy sharing its beauty with students of all ages! I started playing when I was eight years old and haven't stopped since. I enjoy doing gigs such as weddings and parties, but I also love taking my harp to schools and teaching students about this wonderful instrument. Currently, I own three harps - a pedal harp, a lever harp, and a lap harp. I enjoy each of them and love playing a wide variety of music on them. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce a solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in depending on the ability level. I would also start with books for adult beginners if needed. Guitar: For beginners who are kids, I usually start with the FJH Beginner Guitar Method, while also implementing fun melodies they know that can be played on single strings. Once the student has progressed a bit, we will work in chords, more advanced rhythms, and songs appropriate for a recital. For older beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Complete Guitar Method, while again finding songs that match their musical taste and working towards their specific goals (i.e., I really want to start a punk band with my friends next summer, or I'd love to play this Taylor Swift song at the school talent show).
