I have been sightreading music once before I could read English, and I am well-versed is several different sets of training booklets for piano. When I teach teenagers or adults I usually start with Alred’s Basic Adult Piano Course Book, as well as a music theory book that is suited to the student. I like Alfred’s series for the young beginner as well, but have also used the Bastien series. For voice students I use a warm up book and a sight singing book. I believe that learning is not one-size-fits-all: individual academic and physical backgrounds may provide varying difficulty level for every learner, but everyone is fundamentally able to learn with conscious effort, strategic practice over a period of time, and external guidance. I am primarily a percussionist, with over 10 years of expierience playing and performing in jazz bands, marching bands, musical theatre, small ensembles, wind ensembles, and symphonies, and I was the principle percussionist for 2 years while I was in college. I also have 5 years of expierience on the trumpet, 15 years of guitar, as well as expierience with many other instruments.
