Upon this time I studied a full year with James Lee Thorpe whom eventually played, toured recorded with Sweet F.A. They released albums with MCA Chrysalis Records. I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. I have been teaching the flute for many years, dating back to my undergraduate college days. I taught several students that were looking to audition at the school I was at and needed additional help. I have also taught at a summer flute day camp in Michigan for 7 years, working with middle school, high school, and adult students. I currently teach beginning through high school flute students in Pendleton. I am a passionate and driven music instructor that loves encouraging and developing students who love the drums and music. I will be graduating in 2023 from Ball State University with a degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Marketing. I have performed in many settings like church worship teams, large orchestra school bands, music camps and large outside concerts. I like to challenge my students when I feel they should be. I also try very hard to showcase them whenever possible to show the community the great talent that is amongst us. I would have to say my main approach to teaching is figuring out what works best for each individual student, seeing as though everyone learns differently and at different paces. For students that are children or just beginning I start with establishing foundations in music structure and rhythm. The Suzuki school of teaching is often used but not always. Intermediate students are flexible with where the lesson plan is headed while each lesson is tailored to the individual student's learning style. Intermediate students are coached on form, music theory, and musicality. Advanced students are even more flexible with lesson style depending on individual goals followed up with coaching on musicality and performance presence. Read More
