Instruments: Piano
I began teaching private piano lessons when I was a junior in college. I taught all ages including children, teenagers, and adults. I encourage consistent and regular practicing with my students because that is how one succeeds at playing an instrument. I teach students based on their own individual development and pace, but I do push them so that they can improve and become better musicians. I always schedule a recital at the end of the semester and encourage students to perform in festivals and competitions so that they have opportunities to perform. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my High School years, as I began teaching private lessons part time 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students throughout my life for the last 10 years. I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that getting my beginner students learning the songs they want to learn can go a long way in helping students enjoy the guitar and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I believe in individualized learning. So each student will receive their own plan for their progression. Some materials I recommend for students are the rubank book for beginner. It is very important for students to grasp the fundamentals. For intermediate students, we would progress on a track and focus on what they had for goals. For advanced students we could use anything from method books to cds to ear training and transposition to bring out the best in the learner. Read More

I teach by example as i would not expect a student to be able to do something that i cannot do myself.I always try to work on things slightly out of the students grasp to keepthem interested and engaged. We then periodically address the fundamentals of each task or excercise. Read More

Most of my lesson plans are customized for each student, depending the style they are interested in, and the level that they are already playing. Generally speaking for beginners, I begin with teaching about the instrument (string names, frets, tuning, etc.). Then we move on to chords, starting with the easiest ones to play. Once they have grasped how the instrument and chords work, we continue on to melodies and simple 3 chord songs. Read More

For beginning students, I use the first Essential Element book to introduce the first instrument and theory concepts. Once students have progressed past this book, I use the Tune a Day series along with the accompanying scale book. This book introduces students to solo and duet pieces worthy of a recital performance. Once they have reached the third book and are progressing through etudes, students begin working on individual solo repertoire pieces. Read More

I am truly rewarded in seeing my students developing a passion for music and their own musical expression. I believe it's vital to teach each student at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic and attainable goals for my students at each lesson. I enjoy acknowledging progress and accomplishments in each student and I believe it enhances a student's desire to progress and eager to learn more. Read More
