As soon as they develop a strong foundation using technique, theory, and a basic knowldege of what it means to play piano, I introduce them to a genre that they are passionate about for recital work: whether it is based on a movie, a favorite pop star, or a classical musician. I typically start with making sure a student knows his instrument first. What it is, all the diffedrent parts and how they work. I will usually start by asking what the student wants to learn and get out of lessons. Since not all students are the same it is really up to them. I teach the bare bone basics, since that is the foundation. For older students and adults, I try to discover what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I mostly go based off the Suzuki Violin Method books and will guide my students in correct engagement to playing notes, focusing on dynamics, bowings, and finger note placements along with positions of the hand on the violin.
