For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for violin students and piano adventures for piano students. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I'm a dedicated and hard-working teacher that works to provide a consistently growing love and appreciation for music in her students. In 2016, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Clarinet Performance at Morehead State University, and in April 2018 I graduated with my Master of Music degree at the Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music. I have performed in various professional and semi-professional musical settings including: 2 years in the Cave Run Symphony Orchestra, playing out of clarinet/flute/saxophone books for multiple musicals, and most recently traveling around the Midwest states playing clarinet for the Guerrilla Chamber Collective (a chamber group dedicated to performing new music by up-and-coming composers). I have been playing the clarinet for 33 years.    Although; clarinet is my primary instrument, I actually started my musical career on the viola and have been playing that for 34 years.   During the course of my career, I have had the unique experience of leading a bag pipe band.  I have also made a special emphasis on my studies in Latin percussion due to my background in Salsa music. My teaching experience started in college at DePauw University in a pedagogy seminar. Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. I move at a very quick pace, but I have my students set their own goals. While I will select the literature for the student, I want them to feel successful when they are working with me. I want students to be confident and successful, so I will do anything in my power to help them learn good technique and practice habits. I work with my students on building musicality in their playing/singing by changing dynamics, phrasing, and musical articulations.
