For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level. If the students need help working on a particular work for their school (ex solo ensemble, college audition, drum corps audition, concert band works, jury auditions, etc.) I am willing to help the students be successful. I was blessed with many performance opportunities during college, including piano recitals, musical showcases, accompanying performers and chamber ensemble music. Although I enjoy performing, teaching is my first passion. When I was 8-years-old my father gave me his old guitar. From then on I spent most of my free time playing and learning music. I enrolled in structured lessons when I was 12 until I went to Berklee College of Music for a year's time. Afterwards I decided that I wanted to dedicate my spare time to music and not make a professional career out of it. Time is also spent on improvisation, writing original compositions, and learning music that the students have brought to the lesson. For adults, we focus on what students are interested in working on, regardless of their ability level.
