For beginners to the guitar, bass or banjo I usually start with the basic notes and chord shapes. When they progress and for more advanced students, I introduce reading tab, music, scales and basic chord progressions. For advanced students I generally work with modes, finer technique and advanced sightreading, chordal and modal melodies. For beginner students, I like to work on positioning the instrument, proper bow hold, and simple string crossing exercises. A great beginners book is the quick steps to note reading. I believe beginner students should be practicing with this book every day. When they are ready to start learning pieces, I really like to use the Suzuki books. This works for both young beginners and adult beginners. For students who are more advanced, I am adamant about them practicing scales and etudes. Read More

I first began teaching in 2012, when I gave volunteer drum lessons. Shortly after that, I began giving piano and voice lessons both in schools and one-on-one. Currently, when I'm not teaching private lessons, I work part-time as a traveling pre-school music teacher, where I teach preschoolers music with my guitar, picture books, and even puppets! I am comfortable teaching students of all ages but prefer young children, as they can benefit the most from developing a passion for their instrument, which can lead to a lifelong pursuit of music. The best thing as a music teacher personally is to see of my students develop a love for music. It is also important that each individual student will improve at his or her own pace and his or her own level. I will encourage this by making realistic goals for all my students at each individual lesson. I have been playing the cello for forty years and teaching for twenty. I love helping students of all ages realize their goals of playing and performing cello music. Although I do not have an academic background in music, I have studied privately with teachers who have been members of the New York Philharmonic and Juilliard faculty. In addition to playing and performing chamber music for the past thirty years in local venues, I am also a co-founder of the American Chamber Orchestra, a community orchestra that has performed for twenty seasons and toured Europe with performances in many countries.
