My teaching style is based fully on understanding the goals and dreams of each individual student. I like to develop a plan to get each student to a level of proficiency in which they can direct themselves toward the next goal. This is done through consistent methodology and practice scheduling, as well as periodic reviews of the students past progress up to date. Often times, the student will not even realize they have crossed a hurdle as it is easy to start looking further down the road as the students abilities start to become second nature. Read More

For small children, I like to teach from the same book I first learned how to play guitar from. But, for older students, I like to base our lessons on their interests. Generally, I will ask a student if there is a song they really like. If so, we will learn the song by ear, or by sheet music for those interested, and break down all of its pieces. Then, once we understand the inner workings of the music, we will apply it to different situations. Read More

I can be a more laid-back teacher, but this is only if I see that the student has been practicing has been paying attention to the feedback and is taking it in as criticism and not personal. If there is a lack of progression, then we have to communicate what is restricting them or getting in the way of them practicing so we can move along and make them a better player. Read More

My teaching methods can be defined by a few words patient, fun, and above all, flexible. I believe maintaining great flexibility is the greatest way of making sure a student is not only learning at a great pace, but enjoying their journey as well. As this is the case, I create individual custom lesson plans for every single student I teach. For example, with younger students, I will generally try to make sure they are engaged and having as much fun as possible learning the instrument, this could come in the form of focusing on (at first) popular riffs or songs that the student would know and enjoy learning. One of my first priorities in teaching my students is the emotional and intellectual connection and the discovery of their personal music favorites and match them in accordance with their interest, age, and level. for the beginner student(children), I usually use the Axford Guitar Method, which is one of the most progressive and easy-to-understand methods. It teaches them all the basics of classical guitar technique, with fun arrangements of popular songs that the children are interested in.As for the beginner (adults), I suggest Christopher Parkening Method which is a great beginners method book.
