Instruments: Piano
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a method book in order to introduce finger numbers and good technique. We build more and more skills as time progresses. Depending on the student, we may depart from the method book and learn more substantial songs; I'm very good with adapting to the skill levels and strengths of each student. With older students, since they generally have a better feel for what songs/composers they like, I will give them more freedom to choose their own songs and work with them from there. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I encourage my students to develop a deep connection to their voices, nurturing a sense of ownership and authenticity in their singing. In conclusion, teaching voice is not just about imparting knowledge; it is about empowering individuals to discover and cultivate their true musical potential. With a solid foundation in vocal technique, a nurturing teaching environment, and a passion for guiding students on their musical journey, I am dedicated to helping aspiring singers achieve their goals and thrive in their artistic endeavors. Instruments: Flute Piccolo
For beginning students I typically use Trevor Wye Book for Beginners along with Suzuki Book 1. Once sufficient progress has been made, I move on to the Marcel Moyse tone exercise as well as two octave scales and arpeggios paired with intermediate solo repertoire that focuses on tone development, musical phrasing, and musical style. This is all geared to prepare the student to perform with understanding versus pure technique. For young adults and adults, I work from the goals each want to achieve while also implementing traditional teaching materials that solidify the musical training. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I typically begin my young students in the Suzuki Method for Flute, inwhich I have received the training for this method. For older students, I begin them in the Trvor Wye Method for Beginning Flute Students. I supplement both these methods with solos appropriate for their level and goals, such as UIL and other competitions. I always allow time for something fun and modern as part of the weekly practicing. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Euphonium Tuba
No matter the skill level, fundamentals are of importance. As brass players we are using flesh against metal, learning how to do so correctly is vital. I always start with a breakdown of what should be included in their daily fundamentals, from long tones to lip slurs to scales and so on. It is as vital as an athlete stretching and conditioning for their health. Throughout our lessons we will vary the fundamentals, showing them different exercises so that we make sure not to fall in a routine but rather focus on the role that the fundamentals play. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet
I've been teaching in the university for 16 years, along with the students fromkindergarten to adults, leading a clarinet ensemble, performing throughout Taiwan andChina, accompanying vocals in the competitions, playing piano in the church, arranging music, publishing and recording CDsfor voice, instruments, and piano. I have been teaching at Frisco, Allen, Lovejoy, Little Elm, Carrollton ISDs, and the area. The students gain the honor of All-State, All-Area, All-Region, and many achievements on Solo and Ensemble Competitions. Read More
Instruments: Drums
When I teach a new student, I like to get them playing something fun first! I love to have my students playing a basic 4/4 rock beat by the end of the first lesson. Drumming is so much fun, so lets not get right into the rudiments and technique RIGHT away! Some things do have to be taught before that, the very basics like how to hold drumsticks properly, hand position, etc. before that, but it's the first lesson. Read More
