I have been professionally enriched by and have personally thrived on Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's philosophy that everyone can learn to play the violin well, regardless of musical background and heredity. His four pillars of violin mastery are: proper instruction, daily practice, daily listening (to professional recordings of the Suzuki Violin Book pieces) and a loving and nurturing environment both at home and in lessons. In applying the Suzuki method, I spend ample time helping my students build a solid technical foundation (correct bow hold, finger placement, posture, form, etc.) and a perceptive musical ear (ability to recognize correct pitch, rhythm, etc.). After this initial period, I begin teaching notes and general music theory, while continuing to use the Suzuki Violin Books as the cornerstone of instruction. It has been incredibly rewarding to see my students blossom  - musically and personally - through this method of violin instruction.

Hello! I am a motivated private music teacher who loves making the process of learning or developing your musical instrument challenging, exciting, and most importantly fun! I am an experienced private music instructor, professional contemporary singer, and actress who recently moved to Pittsburgh from Boston, MA.  I have worked with many students including rock singers, opera stars in the making, classical and jazz flutists, beginning pianists, and people just looking to have fun learning a new instrument.  I am a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music where I graduated with a degree in Vocal Performance and was awarded highest honors upon completion of my degree.  I have performed in some of Boston’s most well known concert halls such as Berklee College of Music ‘s, Berklee Performance Center and New England Conservatory’s, Jordan Hall. I have also appeared in a few major motion pictures such as Ted and independent films in the Pittsburgh area.  Beyond this, I have also just finished my graduate studies and have received a Master’s degree in music therapy. I use my training and understanding from this program to provide a well-structured and supportive environment for students of all ages and skill levels.  I am currently actively performing around the Pittsburgh area and working on my debut album to be released within the next year.

During my graduate college years at Bowling Green State University, I began to really find out how much I enjoyed teaching students and the pleasure in watching them growing musically as well as personally. I have been teaching students consistently in my home studio for over 15 years.  Encouraging students to not only learn how to read music, but to love what they are playing, has always been one of my main beliefs in enjoying and exploring the world of music and all it has to offer.  I encourage my students to practice so they can continue to learn, but most importantly to have fun in the process.  My students are also encouraged to perform in recitals no matter what level they are at, at that given time, so that they can feel comfortable and proud of their accomplishments as a musician.  I always welcome the opportunity to teach students of all ages!

As a teacher, my teaching is very heavily based off of the students needs. I find that many need example and learn small things off of imitation, therefore I am able to provide examples. I have also had students who recieve information better if explained verbally. Overall, I begin with a set warmup each lesson and we then get right to work on repertoire the student is working on or that I have given them to work on. I expect my students to be prepared, ready to learn, and always open to new ideas!
