My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 3 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of technique and musicality can go a long way in helping students enjoy the drums and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I am a professional guitarist and graduate level composer who has been playing music for 15+ years. Music has always been an extremely important part of my life and has been a very meaningful way for me to communicate with people. I attended Mercer County Community College from 2015 - 2018 and earned my Associates in music composition. After that I received my Bachelor's at Montclair State University where I am also currently pursuing my Master's. Read More

Alissa is a young musician from Philadelphia, who has been studying piano and violin for 13 years. Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School introduced Ali to orchestra and stage performance, having performed at various venues on the Avenue of the Arts, such as the Kimmel Center and Merriam theater. From there, she attended Creative and Performing Arts High School, a school that truly sculpted the creativity, individuality, and ambition that makes music a passion, rather than just a class. I recommend beginner students practice on a beginner educational bell set and either a high quality snare pad or full snare drum, however I recognize that securing quality instruments becomes difficult as students become more serious musicians. I work with my students to find practical, healthy solutions to the problems presented by the unique practice demands of percussion and don't push my students to go farther than they are interested in going. For students who are learning an instrument for band or marching band, I like to integrate their sheet music or method books into the lesson. I use method books with students who are new to their instrument. These materials are then supplemented with scales, solo repertoire, exercises, and technique work as appropriate for each student's interest and skill level. Lessons also consist of listening to previous assignments/repertoire from prior weeks and then offering feedback, answering any questions a student may have, and giving new assignments for the next lesson. I have been a ghost writter for multiple bands over the last year and have written a total of 100 original tracks over my entire musical career. Read More

When I teach I always ask my students what I can help them with and if they are working on anything at the moment. Assuming that they are I will ask them to play a little bit of what they have prepared, just so I can get a general sense of where they are in their journey on the violin. After they finish playing I start by explaining what I noticed from a technical standpoint, so that this way they know what to be aware of and work on while they are in the practice room as it pertains to their setup.
