With beginners and early age students I combine Susuki and traditional method along a series of exercises and songs that help them build the core of violin playing. I make sure that I provide my students the necessary tools to succeed. With my students I have developed a curriculum that covers technique, scales and repertory. For advanced students I work Jaques Dont studies, Kreutzer etudes, Scales and Arpeggios, and we cover Baroque and Classical violin repertory like Vivaldi and Bach concerti. Read More

Learning to play an instrument can be extremely overwhelming, so it's important that the student sets his or her own pace. My role as a teacher is simply to guide students along paths they choose for themselves. At the same time, I push students to explore ideas that they may not have thought to explore for themselves. I have a bachelor's degree in saxophone performance from Nazareth College and a master's degree in jazz performance from DePaul University. In pursuit of my degrees, I performed classical repertoire in solo recitals while also performing with jazz ensembles, wind ensembles, and saxophone ensembles. Additionally, I worked with various jazz and rock groups outside of school. I perform frequently throughout Chicagoland with various ensembles and have appeared at several of Chicago's top venues for jazz and improvised music. Read More

New students should already be able to read music well enough to pick out a melody on a keyboard/piano. I believe in giving the student considerable freedom in choosing music that will not only benefit them technically, but inspire them. The first few lessons are spent in assessing the students voice: range, voice type, technical strengths and weaknesses,etc. The new student is also encouraged to bring in some music they already know.
