After initial skills and/or vocal health assessments, I choose repertoire and books for them based upon their abilities, age, and musical interests. While I think that vocalises and technical exercises are important to the learning process, I believe it is essential for students to be singing and playing music that they are passionate about at all times. I have been teaching guitar/ songwriting since I was a teenager. My first students were my nephews and niece, which was a great introduction in learning to work with young kids. Over the past decade I have taught students of all ages and experience levels while working at a music store in Columbus. Nothing is more rewarding then seeing a student from many years ago either talk about when they had lessons with me or see them playing somewhere either live or online. I have had many students continue to play when they entered college just for fun and a way of meeting people with similar interests.
