It was a very enriching experience to teach for such a young age, and very challenging to have so many students in the same class room! During the 1980s, Stuart played with the infamous Punk legend, Dean Johnson, in Dean and the Weenies. In 1990, he joined the band known as The Rakes Progress which recorded for Almo/Geffen Records. The Rakes Progress was featured on Late Night with Conan OBrian, MTVs 120 Minutes, and Beavis and Butthead and toured through the United States, Canada and Europe. However, in specific moments I am willing to push a student out of their comfort zone to get them to learn something new. Piano: I am not a stereotypical piano teacher! I am very nice, but will also tell you what you need to hear. Especially with beginner, or younger students I think it is important to increase enthusiasm for the instrument while giving students the tools they need to continue pursuing higher levels of technique and understanding. My biggest reward is seeing my students passionate about their voice, their instrument, their music. I focus a lot on understanding music from the piano so I feel very happy when they can demonstrate good musicianship skills in challenging settings. For this to happen I usually set up small objectives for each class and help them set new goals during their own practice time that will allow continuous improvement during our next lesson.  For example, being able to sing a 3rd with just playing the tonic or dominant notes.
