I have a diverse portfolio of performance experiences ranging from large ensembles to chamber music, and from solo recitals to new music premiers. Professionally, I have worked as a freelance musician across the country playing holiday ceremonies to pops concerts, and various other recordings projects. Diversifying my playing experiences has helped me to be a well rounded and knowledgeable performer, that I impart to my students. During my undergraduate degree at the University of North Texas, I frequently performed chamber music with my colleagues in the surrounding community and discussed the importance of music in schools. I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. My objective is to create a comfortable environment fertile for learning, while at the same time having my students know there are skills to refine and concepts to solidify. Read More

I am a singer/songwriter who enjoys the process of creating a song from start to finish. I also am a studio singer and love the experience of being in the studio recording my own original music. I graduated in 2009 with a contemporary music degree that provided a well-rounded musical education. My favorite part of my educational experience was the time I spent at the Contemporary Music Center at Martha's Vineyard for a special off-campus artist program. Read More

When I think of teaching, I think of how rewarding it is to get to know each student and their families. I encourage parents to stay in the lesson (not required). There is so much to learn and see. My students each have a plan each week outlining not just WHAT to practice but HOW to practice. I often say if you practice HOW I am asking you to practice, you will learn a lot and progress. Upon a student's evaluation every lesson with any student should form it's own branch or life of it's own. Music is a passionate expression. I help students understand their instruments. Self expression, individualism, and self composition are traits I sought as a student and musician. My joy as a teacher, instructor and mentor is seeing the excitement someone achieves when they finally feel the "got it" or are starting to connect the dots. Read More

I have been teaching the flute for many years, dating back to my undergraduate college days. I taught several students that were looking to audition at the school I was at and needed additional help. I have also taught at a summer flute day camp in Michigan for 7 years, working with middle school, high school, and adult students. I currently teach beginning through high school flute students in Pendleton. Having worked with a variety of levels of students, I have a broad perspective of what students need and am flexible as far as my teaching style for each individual student. Read More

For adults, I would continue using these books but at a higher level with supplemental material on the side, which may include solo repertoire appropriate for them and Hanon's Virtuoso Pianist exercises (a few, not all). For voice students, I try to find out what it is they are interested in singing; I am comfortable with all genres but it should be noted that I am classically trained and can work more easily and comfortably for those wanting to sing classical music, musical theater, and church related music. A student must enjoy what they are working on in order to progress. Read More
