I am a passionate musician and teacher devoted to helping people of all ages find lifelong enrichment through music. I am a recent (May 2015) graduate of Butler University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal and Instrumental Music Education. While at Butler, I was a part of their Community Arts School dedicated solely to giving lessons to students in the Indianapolis area. I've had students in the past few years ranging from students just starting out on their instrument to those who have been playing a number of years. Read More

These last 8 years specifically have enriched my repertoire. In high school, I was a part of the Chicago Youth Symphony orchestras which pushed me musically and technically and prepared me for college. I debuted with the Concert Orchestra, performed in the Symphony Center, United Center, Chicago Theatre, and other venues throughout Chicago. At Jacobs, I further expanded my solo and orchestral repertoire and played in numerous symphonies, chamber ensembles, operas, and ballets. Read More

For beginning students I would focus on their posture and breathing. It's easy to start with bad posture and breathing when you are just starting out and if kept, it will be incredibly hard to get into having good posture and breathing techniques. Then we would focus on exercises that their band teacher or I gave out, and we would work on scales. For more advanced players I would start to use excerpts from the Arbons book. Read More

One of the best things to experience is watching someone progress. I began teaching because I wanted to help others and share my musical abilities. During lessons one of my main focuses is to promote encouragement. After encouragement is passion, because with passion come everything else. When you have passion and love what you’re playing you have fun. And when you have fun you stick to it. I help students find passion by catering to their needs. Read More

For 5 to 6 year old beginners, I create an individualized lesson plan based on observing the student's learning style, strengths and weaknesses as well as personality. For the first 4 or more lessons, this includes my own big-note, large-symbol work sheets and simple songs. Next, and with older or more advanced students, I use a combination of lesson, technique and performance method books (Faber, Bastien, Hal Leonard), a scale/chording book and adjunct material consisting of songs the student wants to learn such as pop/rock, movie themes, holiday and theme music, and classical, to maintain interest and enjoyment. My preferred method for very young students has been the Suzuki method, as I believe a well trained ear continues to be our best musical learning tool later in life as well. When students progress to reading, the full line of Suzuki books can of course be utilized, but it is very advisable to incorporate additional materials and techniques. The Kodaly method is also useful and even more traditional 'reading first' techniques can be used if requested. Read More

I am a driven and holistic instructor that finds meaning, passion, and understanding from sharing music with others. I graduated from Northern Illinois University, in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Trombone Performance. During my time at NIU, I studied with Jeremy Moeller, principal trombone of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. As a former member of the Cavalier's Drum and Bugle Corp, I have traveled around the country performing for various crowds with some of the best young brass players in the country. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
