I am a passionate music educator who loves working with students and sharing the joy of music. I graduated in May 2015 from Westminster College with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education with a Concentration in Clarinet. I have enjoyed playing with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra on Bass Clarinet and playing in other ensembles. My teaching experience dates back to my college days as I began teaching as an instructor for a local high school marching band, leading their woodwind sectionals and marching clinics. I began teaching full-time in 1992 and temporarily left full-time teaching in 1998 when my daughter was born. It was at this time that I first opened my home up to teaching privately. My teaching style emphasizes areas that the student enjoys playing, as well as method books and technique exercises that will advance their playing. Developing and solidifying core concepts in lessons is more important to me than speeding through exercises in a book, and I always stress the importance of doing things right before moving on. I encourage my students to practice at their own pace, however I always stress that picking up the instrument for even just ten minutes a day for a week is better than one day for an hour. Read More

I love the Faber and Faber method.  It combines performance, theory, technique, ear training, transposition, and so many unique skills and styles.  It really gives the student the opportunity to try everything.  It also allows the instructor to tailor each lesson to the student's needs. I take aspects of different methods and combine them with my own to create a opportunity for the student to explore and experiment with their music, with out developing bad habits. I like to use the Suzuki books as a basis solely for musical progression, but technical set up is catered to differently for each student. The violin is not a naturally held instrument, and not everyone's body is the same, therefore I work with each student individually to find the right set up for their body. Read More
