Degrees / Training / Special Info:
University of Pittsburgh, 2 years jazz guitar and music theory. Prior to that, private lessons with various teachers. Also, self taught ear training and other related techniques.
Overview:
I have been playing guitar since age 10 to the present (age 56). Styles primarily include:rock, blues, jazz, funk and r & b. Studied music with various teachers at various levels during the first 15 of those years. Have extensive experience in live performance in the concert and club venues in Pittsburgh,Pa., and Ft Lauderdale/Miami, Fl regions. Also, have taught private lessons on and off during these years when schedule allowed. Would love to share my education, playing skills and overall experience with students of all ages and levels of skill.
EXPERIENCE
My experience teaching has varied from beginners to intermediate to advanced on a part-time level over the past 20 years or so. My current schedule now allows me much more time to share the teaching skills I have accumulated over these years. A good portion of my teaching experience includes live performance, music direction, and music business management. I offer my experiences in these fields along with my music instruction experience. Let's enjoy the learning experience together and grow to love music- guitar - and the joy it can bring to ourselves and other people!!!!!
METHODS USED
My approach and methods of teaching are simply this: Enjoy the learning experience without getting bogged down with staring at sheet music for hours on end. Ear training and motor memory will provide a much more enjoyable learning experience and will render results at a much faster pace than "books". However, "books" are important to some degree I admit. But, practice and dedication will render the most important result....and that is ....PLAYING AND ENJOYING THE GUITAR!!!!!!!....and the music and joy it brings along.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching style: having the student focus on simplicity...focus on practice, practice, practice....focus on enjoying the lesson, not dreading it. I will assess the students' needs simply by having a conversation first. Then ask some basic questions about what music style is appealing to them. Most important is that whatever the student's level is, just feel comfortable, relaxed and look forward to this wonderful journey that is called "Playing the Guitar"! Keep in mind, my schedule is flexible. I will provide a schedule below but it can vary based on students' needs. Time slot and days are flexible.
