I graduated from University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music with a degree in Acoustical Engineering, concentration in Trumpet in 2017. I graduated as the valedictorian of my class. I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. For younger beginning students, I either start with Strictly Strings or Suzuki, depending on how much prior musical experience the student has. In either case, I ensure that the student has a clear understanding of the violin and what is involved right from the beginning, and place a heavy emphasis on aural learning and ear training so they have a good foundation for their own practice at home and furthering their aural skills. For beginners, I teach them basic exercises and the fundamentals needed to play their instrument. Once they have that down, we can talk about what repertoire to learn. Then, I will teach them the songs they want to learn, as well as any techniques they are curious about. For an intermediate and higher level students, the direction of the lessons is more in their hands.
