I strive to provide effective tools for children and adults of all ages that reinforce vocal training, confidence, precision, and vocal hygiene. The last decade of experience gives me a solid foundation to ascertain the temperament and learning style of students and create a specialized and integrative lesson plan for them to utilize in order to enhance their gifts. My personal style is an authoritative one, not authoritarian or passive, wherein I connect with my students with positive reinforcement.

I earned valuable skills while touring and teaching and found a niche while working with kids of which helped create my specialized children's teaching curriculum. Whether it's teaching children or adults, beginning classes start with basic snare rudimentary concepts with Stick Control and a Rudiment Dictionary. We then begin to work the moeller stroke on the kit. Intermiediate and advanced classes focus more on pocket, technique, kit maintenance and tuning, originial concepts, and mic placement.

Instruments:

My pedagogy is a direct replica of the techniques I find most effective in my playing. I tailor my methods based on the needs and goals of each individual student. I do not believe that one method fits all but I am very knowledgeable of different method books such as Dotzauer, Popper, and Klengel but emphasize the importance of learning technique through repertoire. I also find it most effective to ensure my students enjoy our sessions by incorporating practical fun in every step of learning. Whoever said learning can't be both fun and rewarding?

Instruments:

I like to start simple. Learning how to hold the sticks and working with different sticking exercises followed by a simple and fun approach to learning rudiments I have a couple of snare drum method books I like to use. I like to play it out and see which one I think will work for the student. Podemski Snare Drum Method or Haskel Harr method. Once we have progressed to a certain point, I like to introduce some fun learning tools. One is listening analysis. I like to play music of different styles and have students listen to different parts of a song. I also like doing rhythmic dictation. This is where a student listens to a line I play and tried to write it out note for note. It enables them to learn how to physically write the notes and fully understand the value of each note. Another option is drum set. Whn a student gets to a certain point, we can begin exploring the set. Larning how to read charts, play beats, play along with tracks, etc.
