I have been playing music for over 15 years and have earned two degrees in music (University of Colorado, Manhattan School of Music). I find teaching only to be effective if the student is intrinsically motivated to learn more: I like to find a groove or pace that the student feels confident and motivated to practice, and I tailor the lessons to address any problem areas without losing their attention. I find short excerpts of lesson material to be the best way to teach. Short and sweet! I tailor my instruction to each students needs. For a beginning student, the fundamentals are key. Once they have a good grasp of the fundamentals, realistic goals are set for each lesson. I like to show my excitement when a student has accomplished a specific goal well. I enjoy having the student play duets with me. I began teaching flute privately in 2000, building a flute studio in Buffalo, NY of over 15 members. My students are known for their consistency in rhythm and pitch, along with their love of flute. I encourage all students to enter competitions and attend performances and masterclasses, which motivates students and encourages them to seek their own creative outlets. He joined the school band and performed drum solos for entertainment at school events. Soon it became evident that being a drummer was his calling.
