We can use any resources you have that can attend to the technical elements or musical demands that you are working toward. If you prefer we can employ any edition of the "Grand Methods" of the 19th 20th centuries as well as contemporary publications. As a Brass Pedagogue I prefer to have students employ the Claude Gordon Method series and the ancillary books by Arban, Brophy, H.L. Clarke, Gatti, Irons, St.Jacomes...I can always send you pages of things you need. Read More

If the student is a beginner, I suggest just playing one note for a short time and expand that to three notes. This can be done very quickly, then most students can move to easy tunes on a single sheet of music. This music is commonly known as sheet music and con be accessed and played in line or through the purchase of said sheet music on many sites. If the student in not a beginner, advanced or intermediate I have to do a performance ability assessment. Read More

I began teaching piano and clarinet while I was in high school. I currently teach 1st grade in the Fairfield area as well as have a few private students. My students have been selected for county honor bands, all northern honor bands, all state honor bands and even all national honor bands. I encourage regular practice and always find music that peaks their interests and makes them want to practice while also working on foundational skills. Read More

My teaching style is improvisational in nature. I focus on creative compositions. In contrast, I present traditional music and learning. I juxtapose the two into a new style of teaching. I mix the old with the new, and thereby create my own style. Much as in the fashion of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do with my intention on music education. Read More

I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy". Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
For beginning students, I usually employ the Rubank method books. These books, while not as flashy as others, are exceptional for building technique, musicality, and reading skills. In addition, my students focus upon proper tone production, technique, and posture as we explore their musical preferences. I encourage my students to explore the genres of music that they enjoy as well. Through fun Disney excerpts, jazz transcriptions, pop music, or any other passion, we keep our lessons productive, yet fun. Read More

I customize my curriculum to the needs of the student and the things they would like to learn. From basic note and chords to substitutions and harmony. Within that I always give an understanding of basic music theory in a practical way that the student can apply to their playing. . For those who want to go deeper in music I teach advanced concepts, improvisation and song writing. For beginning students I mix basic chords and melody to help them play songs that they can enjoy.
