My teaching style is improvisational in nature. I focus on creative compositions. In contrast, I present traditional music and learning. I juxtapose the two into a new style of teaching. I mix the old with the new, and thereby create my own style. Much as in the fashion of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do with my intention on music education. Read More

Chamber music (small group) is what gives me the most satisfaction in playing and performing. In orchestral music, every wind player is a soloist. As a chamber player, not only is everyone a soloist on their part, but, the musical demands of being a rhythmic, melodic and harmonic foundation for each others' primary voice are broader, deeper, more technically challenging, and, can be truly intimate and immensely expressive communication. The Brass Quintet introduced me to Chamber Music. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
For students between the ages of 3 and 7, I typically use either the Little Mozarts method or the Birds and Dogs method. For students who are older, I use a combination of methods, including Alfred's, Bastien and Faber. I have also designed and used my own curriculum for students with special needs, including students who have autism, cerebral palsy, nerve damage, ADHD and for gifted students. I incorporate classical music including Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Kabalevsky and many others for more advanced students, and especially for students who are competing. Read More

Beginners start with Accent in Achievement and work daily on book 1 and I suggest they play with a beginning band. By the second year they should finish book 1 and start book 2; work on parts of book 3 as they can play a complete scale or scales and then use book 3 as appropriate. It is suggested that students practice an hour a day, however students need not be all at one time. Read More

I began teaching piano and clarinet while I was in high school. I currently teach 1st grade in the Fairfield area as well as have a few private students. My students have been selected for county honor bands, all northern honor bands, all state honor bands and even all national honor bands. I encourage regular practice and always find music that peaks their interests and makes them want to practice while also working on foundational skills. Read More

My teaching experience started many years ago with a few students who were interested in learning jazz and improvisational music. I have taught group classes and one on one now for 25 years. I have much experience working with beginner and young students making their first attempts at playing an instrument as well as players already proficient at the guitar who want to brach out and learn new things. I prefer to teach students who can commit to a regular scheduled weekly lesson as Ive found the consistant work on an instrument is what really produces the most positive results and enjoyment for the student. I began teaching professionally in the Bay Area about 30 years ago. I have taught in a variety of settings includings classes, group lessons, in music stores, for school districts, at students' homes and in my own private studio. Every person learns differently and I am highly skilled at detecting this and using it to my students' advantage. My recitals not only present individual pieces, but also group works that encourage working together with other musicians which is a highly rewarding benefit of music. Read More
