I blend the tried-and-true poise of classical technique with holistic approaches to satisfy two purposes: 1) the traditional desire to hone skill with practice and discipline, and 2) the psychological development of the student's independent musicianship. Music without expression is only sport. While technique, exercise, rigor, and history are essential in order to develop the deepest possible understanding of music, I aim to go beyond this to shape the independent expressionism of each student. My love of teaching begins years ago from being a beginner student and helping my peers understand their instruments. In high school I was a section leader in marching and concert band for two years, leading sectional rehearsals and helping students one-on-one. Many of my peers started coming to me for costructive criticism and I would help them in a private lessons setting. In college this continued as I was in the studio with other saxophonists and in methods classes with other musicians. Read More

When taking on beginner students, I typically use a blend of method books and novice musical pieces to begin to build musicianship. With intermediate musicians, I tend to seek out anything of interet to the student while incorporating harder repertoire to strengthen musicianship and to continue to peek interest in music. With adult musicians, I let them guide me to their area of interest, and I capitalize on that to guide them to better musicianship, no matter what their skill level may be. Read More

I am a passionate instructor who believes that learning to speak this universal language is one of the best ways to bring communities and people together. I graduated from Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver June of 2019 and have been teaching privately for the past two years. Aside from teaching I perform at local venues around Denver with bands of all different genres. I also organize events involving live music, art, and food to promote Denver's local artists and raise awareness for Orpheus Music + Arts Festival: a project I started last year and plan to keep cultivating. For beginning students, I create my own lessons, starting with proper technique, basic rhythms andintroductionto music theory, but only related to rhythms at first. After a couple lessons, we start to focus on thefundamentalrudimentsand short solo piecesincorporatingthose rudiments. For the more advanced student, I try to find outtheirgoals and expectations and try to alignandincorporatethose with studies in technique and theory. The goal is to keep students interested, lessons fun while growing their experience andproficiencyattheirinstrument. Read More

Typically I like to using songs and common chord progressions and incorporate different skills we are working on into songs. This way the student learns a repertoire while learning skills. However this is up for debate and we can cover whatever the student desires. Often times teachers teach a blanket method using certain scales, chords, ect, expecting that this will miraculously result in the improvement the student desires. I am firm believer that this is not the case. Read More
