It begins with note reading which I feel is one of the most important parts of beginner piano playing. The book includes a play-along cd that I use for rhythm practice during lessons to clap and count, because having a steady rhythm is the second most important aspect of playing the piano. Teaching the fundamentals of music gives the student the ability to work on technique development. Once the fundamentals of technique and theory line up then I will begin to introduce songs and solos based on the students ability and interests. For beginner students, I try to get them to learn a song by the first lesson.  Eventually, I start them off by focusing on technique (learning notes and scales), tone development, etudes, and repertoire.  Efficiency of effort in the fingers, usage of air, and holding of the body in order to produce a beautiful sound is a top priority.  I believe the connection between the mind and body is very important, and you will find me often asking questions to engage the students in being aware of what they are doing as they are playing. For people 9 and up the method i use is the traditional method from the Cuban and Spaniard school. This consists of developing the three characteristics of a musician. Since graduating CSU I've performed as the Principal Violist of the Parker Symphony for 4 years, been an active member of a string quartet, played in multiple bands, and have also played with members of the band Devotchka.
