Nothing is more pleasant than being able to inspire my students to become passionate in what they do, and do what they love. The first thing i do when i begin the process of teaching a student is to ask him/her what he desires to achieve with what he wants to learn, from there i establish the intensity and demand in the apprenticeship. For those who want to achieve a professional level in the instrument must compromise his effort and his time in the study of his instrument. Read More

I work with all ability levels, but my strength (and joy!) is engaging with beginner and intermediate flutists. I approach teaching from the "whole child" level. I recognize that you are not just a flute student; you are also an individual with a family, friends, school, sports, clubs, and other commitments. I love to be a part of your creating, experiencing, and sharing music. But being a part of the growth of your self-confidence and maturity is also an important element of the delightful journey. Like I said above about my methods, my teaching style is all based around what YOU, the student, wants to learn, and YOUR level of knowledge/experience. If you want to learn a few songs to play along to and that's it, I can teach you how to. If you want to learn how to jam with friends and start a band, I can show you. If you want to really learn how to play and become a great musician, I can give/show/teach you everything I know. Read More

I'm actually very flexible with the methods or books for all of the instruments I teach. Generally, for the band instruments, the director picks the method book. Most of the modern ones are pretty good to get students started, so I'm fine sticking to the director's method of choice and gleaning all the musical gems we can from it. Similarly with piano, there are several great method books out there, and you can learn a lot about piano from any of them. Read More

I teach as a motivational coach. I only encourage and never discourage a student. I use a Hybrid, or blended style, following an integrated approach to teaching that blends the teacher’s personality and interests with students’ needs and curriculum-appropriate methods. While I practice all of the pedagogical techniques I learned in college, as a classroom veteran I examine and use differentiated instruction and new learning methodologies, consider that not all students respond well to one particular style Read More

My teaching experience began when I started giving lessons in my freshman year of college 10 years ago. I was part of the school of music's community teaching program, where I taught lessons to mostly children. Since that time I have taught in-home lessons and home studio lessons. When I teach, I try to help students discover their passion for the instrument. I structure lessons in a way that helps students enjoy what they do. Read More
