Instruments: Piano
Since I was inspired to play piano by ear after hearing a Mozart piano sonata when I was five, my love of music brought me to many places performing professionaly, whether it's a Dvorak trio, a big band standard, or a Daft Punk cover. I began my formal training at the Cleveland Institute of Music for eleven years, while also studying violin, percussion, trumpet, and composing along the way. Beginning by performing as a freelance accompanist, church organist, and teaching piano at Baldwin - Wallace College, I've gone on to play at the University of Connecticut Chamber Music Festival in 2009, and earned my Master's in piano performance in 2010. My favorite thing to see is a student improving! I communicate with the student and agree on goals to reach. I try to set a positive and motivating atmosphere to lead the student to success! Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
I've been interested in music ever since I was little and have been playing music with various instruments since I was in the 5th grade. I focused on saxophone when I was in junior high and continued through high school. It was my first passion even when going off to college. I went to school for Audio Production to learn another set of skills that has served me since 2005. My love of saxophone has been influential in my taste in music and would love to teach others the fundamentals and help them progress. Read More
Instruments: Piano Trumpet Trombone
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Faber Piano Adventures, Standards of Excellence, and/or any beginning book the student will enjoy. For beginning adults, the Rubank Elementary Method books, the Older Beginner Piano Course by James Bastien, and/or any other books the student would enjoy. Along with those books of instruction, I would encourage students to learn level-appropriate solo repertoire. At the intermediate to advance level, I would encourage the Hanon Virtuoso Pianist book, the Sonata Album for the Piano from Schirmer's Library of Musical Classics, and the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet and for Trombone. I am very patient and responsibe teacher. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction on their wants and needs. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Acoustic Guitar
I start by assessing my student's personality type so that I know which teaching style to use going forward. From there, I would gather information from the student regarding his or her difficulty level with the instrument and then from there, I would put together the appropriate materials for the lesson so that we have a plan to work from and an end goal in mind. I want to make my students feel as comfortable as possible but also to be able to push their abilities to the limit when need be. Read More
