For beginner saxophone and clarinet players I tend to use the first book in the series from Standard of Excellence. After those first two books I move them into the Rubank Intermediate Series of books. For saxophonist, and even some clarinetist that would like to learn some jazz I use the Lennie Niehaus Jazz Conception Series. Learn something new as much as you can. Everyday I play the guitar I try and learn something new and always remember no matter how good you get to always be a student of the instrument. It goes a long way in your own abilities. I enjoy teaching anyone willing to learn the guitar. Age and gender do not matter to me. My interest in a variety of musical styles has given me the opportunity to meet a lot of great musicians from different backgrounds. It has also opened my eyes to a variety of ways of thinking about music. I received a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from Bowling Green State University in 2012. I've performed recently with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra as a section percussionist, and I frequently play drum set with a band that plays for corporate events, private parties, and concert series. I also encourage performances and for those, I let students choose works (classical, romantic, contemporary, jazz, or pop) based on skill level and personal interest.
