For beginning students I like to teach basic techniques. Scales, breathing, knowledge etc. Once the student starts to get comfortable with the beginning stages I introduce songs that I believe will challenge their voice. I listen, critique, and offer knew options of note placement & tone. My goal is not to change the way the student sings but to enhance it and clean it up. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student’s desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I discovered my love of teaching in college when I was required to teach voice lessons as an assignment for my vocal pedagogy class. I was amazed at how fulfilling it was to share my knowledge and love of singing with my students. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach singers of varying ages, backgrounds, and experience levels.
