I teach breath, posture, resonance, placement and help students get over their mental hurdles to sing their best. When they are getting the basics, I will introduce music of their favorite styles into lessons and we will work on technique seperately and through these repertoire selections. At the end of each lesson, I will give students homework and three to five goals for the week. I give them a very clear idea of what they need to do at home to keep progress moving forward. My teaching style, particularly with my younger students, is to combine yoga-like breathing and proper posture to develop their voice naturally. I find that it does not matter which style of singing you would like to learn or how you would like to use your voice, breathing and breath work are an essential foundation to wonderful music making. However, I have used other series such as Faber or Bastien with some other students, especially if they have had prior lessons and were taught on those methods. I always like to use lesson, performance, and theory books, to allow students to not only learn new concepts as they progress, but also learn pieces that can become performance-ready, and gain a wider understanding for the theory behind the musical concepts.
