I start all beginners with the Mel Bay guitar method. That's how I started. From there we create what works for them. I'm also learning as I teach and creating each lesson newly. I like to keep the lessons fresh and exciting too. Finding fun ways to practice the modes and scales. After each lesson we want to measure our growth and our progress. I also love seeing my students play live too. Read More

I am a passionate and professional music teacher who has been teaching music for over a decade. I learned guitar at the age of fifteen and never stopped learning! I was in both the Marching Band and high school varsity band during the mid 2000s and after that I recorded an acoustic album which features both my guitar playing and singing. I believe music itself is both an expression and a feeling and having the ability to teach this skill set to others is a pleasure to me. Read More

I use books recommended to me by the music stores, Opus Winds in Decatur, Ga. I also consult with other music teachers at times and shop for music that my students tell me they would like to learn. I also tell them they can shop at musicnotes.com and I will help them learn to play pieces they like. There is something to be learned from the way any genre of music is composed. Read More

My methods vary as do each and every one of my students. I feel that a classical background is paramount in learning proper technique in piano. The student can add his/her own genre to the mix, once the fundamentals are achieved. (In fact, I recommend this highly). I like to offer some of the apps that Apple and Android computers have as there are many and suitable for all ages/levels. Read More

I have been using the Alfred Method Books for my beginning piano students, as they provide a well-rounded program incorporating theory, technique and performance. pieces. Intermediate students should, in my opinion, begin to choose the music they want to work on. I like my students to learn how to read music as well as play by ear, how to practice and how to incorporate theory into performance. Most of all, I want all my students to deeply feel the joy of music making, and discover the vast universe of music that we all can share and enjoy. Read More

For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun.
