My primary instrument is trumpet and I have played in a variety of bands and sung in a variety of choruses of the years. At the start of the first lesson, I give each new student a questionniare to fill out that tells me their musical background, influences, goals for the instrument and what music they are interested in learning. If the new student is a younger child, I begin them with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book One. Once they have grasped the simple chords and melodies of the book, I begin to introduce simple songs that they are interested in learning. Read More

My teaching style is very transparent; I want my students to recognize what we are working towards and how close they realistically are to that goal. This way, the student and I are working together to achieve a greater understanding of their instrument! I love feeling like I'm helping a student gain an understanding of a topic, rather than simply dictating a list of rules to know. I myself have an appreciation for many different styles of music, so I do my best to help students understand stylistically what is appropriate, necessary, and customary about the repertoire they are performing. For beginning students I start with Suzuki books until about book 5 and then begin to branch out into other repertoire.  I teach students to read music as well as basic theory. I started mentoring and teaching students when I was in high school. I have been very successful with preparing students for auditions and to get them to the next level with their performance. Many of my students have gone on to study at Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard Preparatory program and Laguardia High School. I have worked as a teaching artist with Brooklyn Conservatory, Midori and Friends, Harlem Children's Zone, Louis Armstrong Foundation, New York Pops, Harlem School of the Arts and Menchey's Music.
