Well work on rock, pop, funk, jazz, RB, blues, classical/concert percussion, marching band and much more! Through the exploration of different styles well learn the foundational techniques, rudiments, styles and feels that are integral to every education in drums. For beginning students, we start with simple scales, fingering patterns, short melodies, and based on that student’s needs and learning style, I decide which lesson plan to use (Suzuki, Hal Leonard, etc.). I use Tonal Harmony textbook excerpts to help with advanced theory lessons. More advanced singers receive more training in classical and musical theater technique. My philosophy is that every singer should be trained classically first. I have 10,000+ hours of teaching experience, and have been an active professional orchestral clarinetist since 2008. I also play chamber music in various ensembles, and occasionally collaborate in world music settings such as flamenco and Latin music. My students get a solid classical foundation from me, which allows them to freely explore whatever musical style interests them. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce a solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in depending on the ability level. I would also start with books for adult beginners if needed. My goal as a teacher is to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
