When planning lessons, I aim to provide students with 1) music to practice from a variety of genres and styles, 2) music that will challenge them in a variety of ways, and 3) creating/composing exercises and etudes that will help the student focus on particular weaknesses in their playing (I have often used music notation software to create individualized etudes for students). I love working with students on improving their sound, their range, and their fluidity on the saxophone. I started teaching violin at The Miracle Center, through the After School Matters program 10 years ago. Since then I've been violin teacher at several Chicago Public Schools, Chicago District Parks and violin teacher at the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance. I currently teach at CPS schools Thorp Scholastic Academy and Coonley Elementary. I've worked with students of all ages and enjoy finding new and fun ways to approach leaning. I am flexible and I adapt my method to the student. I like to start students out with learning scales right away. If you can learn the scales, it makes learning new songs so much easier. Plus, they are great excercise for building agility.
