My teaching experience actually started when i was a senior in high school. The music teacher had ask me if i wanted to be his assistant. I taught notation to the student's. Conducted the jazz band and the choir. In small groups i would teach them music theory and correct any problems the student's had with their music. This was a very challenging experience for me. As the student develops a better understanding of music and a better ability to play it, I would then work on finding them a piece of music that challenges their knowledge and technique, yet also a piece of music that they would want to play, and that they would be passionate about learning. I find that when teaching just reading a book and rote playing isn't enough. I like to use scales, singing, and creative composition to get my students to think outside of the box and learn to independently create music while learning theory basics. I really enjoy teaching and working with people! My goal is to see each student learn at their own pace, and develop a love for music. My approach is to set realistic goals at each lesson, so that students can achieve, and have their achievements acknowledged, so they feel excited to progress and learn more.
