ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

I started my musical studies at the age of ten, a long time ago back in the late sixtes. I played percussion in the school band. This is where I started to read music studying rhythm charts. I moved on to junior high school where I studied the trumpet and performed in the school band. As I got into high I studied the guitar and music theory. I've been playing the guitar for over forty years now. I`ve studied guitar with excellent private teachers over the years, and have studied out of many books specializing in jazz, blues, rock, classical and chord theory.

Awards:

I played first trumpet in the junior high school band and brass ensemple. We performed a lot traveling to other schools and events. I was spotlighted on a t.v. program featuring the school band for a prime time network television show. Over the years I've gone on to become an accomplished guitarist and songwriter, knowing the complete makeup of the guitar.

Overview:
I've been fascinated with the guitar since I was about 10 years old, having been influenced by all the great rock guitar gods of the sixties and seventies. As I got into high school I became interested in jazz, and started to study jazz guitar. I enjoy many styles of music. I like music that is very passionate and moves and grooves you in various ways. I'm very creative and innovative. I like to be oirginal and put my own style into my playing. I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge with my students. I've been playing for many years. I know and understand the guitar completely from top to bottom and teach my students to completely understand what they're playing.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience goes back to the late seventies where I started to teach kids in the neighborhood the guitar. As I got older and more knowledgeable about jazz and blues, I taught on a part time basis shareing what I was learning through my own studies with my students. Now many years later I have an excellent knowledge of the guitar and want to teach students how to completely understand it. I believe the guitar should be approached like it were a piano, mixing up notes chords sacles and melodies all up and down the neck.I teach the students to really open up thier playing utilizing many chords and go beyond just strumming and playing basic chords and scales.
METHODS USED
I use beginning guitar books such as Hal Leonard that show the basic layout of the guitar and are an introduction to reading. Also chord books, books on scales, jazz methods, fake books, classical books and such. I like to teach my own style, being creative and going beyond basics. I teach the student how to hold and place their hands properly on the guitar. How to develop a nice light touch and get a real nice sound. After the student can start to play with some ease then we will start to read guitar pieces including easy classical pieces and popular melodies and songs.
LESSON STYLE
For beginners I start with easy chords to strum and some basic scales to work with. Getting more advanced we will study many chords, chord theory, reading guitar pieces, improvise, play solo guitar. My lessons are detailed. You will learn exactly what notes, chords, scales progressions etc. you are playing. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and helping them develop, improve their skills, and gain fulfillment out of their music studies. For more advanced students we will learn how to implement many different chords, read advanced guitar pieces and really gain much more knowledge and take your playing to another level.
