With teaching students, I like to start them out with Dozen A Day as this helps warm up their fingers and hands to get ready for the music in their lesson. After that I will start them on going over the name of the notes that are on the piano as well as the scales. I like to work with them on the basics such as the note values, the different music symbols such as the treble and bass clefs, what is on each measure of music. Read More

I'm a passionate, veteran voice and beginning piano instructor who loves helping students achieve their goals. I completed my Master of Music studies at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Arts in voice performance from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. As a young artist, I spend three summers performing and studying in Austria with the Franco- American Vocal Academy. In addition to teaching, I maintain a busy performing scheduling in opera, musical theatre, and recital. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I began teaching in 2017 at the Arboretum Music School in Waunakee, though I left that position for my studies in Vienna. Since then, I have only occasionally taught in my home, and moreso spent time exploring my own relationship to music, my body's relationship to the instrument, and to my sound. This is what I would encourage my students to do as well, to view the process as much as exploration as learning. Read More

Lessons are catered to reinforce proper foundations and techniques, while offering progressive challenges. I utilize a variety of schools of instruction, methods, and techniques to offer students multiple options which will best nurture their musical growth. Read More

For beginning students, I usually start by creating a strong foundation in the student's mind of why they want to learn how to play an instrument and what goals, if any, they initially have for themselves. I then utilize this to help create individual based lesson plans that are driven by the inner workings of the student's mind. I incorporate music theory into every instrument at every skill level because I believe it to be something that is extremely important to understand and that not a lot of students are exposed to before they get to college. For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leanord's Essential Elements. Once the student has a grasp of their instrment and the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire and tecnique exercises. I will try to find out what the student is interested in to help guide my instruction and keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter the age or ability level. Read More
