For beginning students, I typically start with the Alfred or Mel Bay Method. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce other repertoire where appropriate. For students who have some experience, I will try to find out what the student is interested in, and direct my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging. I have primarily been a church musician for the past 15 years, but have also played in drum and bugle corps, orchestra and concert style bands. My main instrument is the trumpet, having played for 35 years. I give lessons on all brass instruments, although trumpet is my primary. I can teach any style. I have played guitar for about 25 years and my primary focus is classical or accoustic. My area of expertise is Sight Reading. This is an essential aspect of learning to play any instrument. A good sight reader is always able to learn their pieces faster and be better performers.
