The student is not responsible for purchasing any books or material, as I provide everything to them. For children I love teaching simple 1 finger versions of two chords, to give them an instant gratification and the knowledge that they really can play guitar. For older students, I am able to completely design a lesson plan around their interests and favorite styles of music. I like to ask the students during the first lesson to name a few songs of any difficulty that they would eventually like to be able to play, and the lesson plan we follow will inevitably reach one of those songs, providing the student with a great benchmark for their success and inspiring them even more.I also incorporate light ear training into my lessons, as your ear is your strongest asset as a musician, and I am able to break down the musical genre barriers to show students that all music truly is the same, and it is all attainable. My day job is in IT, but my passion is music! I picked up a bass guitar at 12 years old and an acoustic guitar at age 15. I became a drummer at age 16. Now I am a seasoned musician, but more important- I am a 40 year old husband and father of 2 boys. I love giving children the knowledge and skills they need to express themselves through music. My musical career has not been glamorous. Read More

Naturally, my method will adapt to each student's needs. This will depend firstly on what style of music we are working to develop. Next, I will base my approach on the students level of abilities. There are a number of things to consider, such as technique, aural capacity, intuitive understanding, and basic theoretical knowledge, as well as each student's particular personality traits and best method of receiving information. I have a large repertoire of pedagogical literature and performance pieces. Read More

My methods change for each student, depending on ability and interest. For the most part I start with warm up exercises to get your fingers moving properly, then have a balance of going through instruction books and jamming and/or improvising in different styles, and slowly progress you and help with techniques to make you sound as clean as possible. I will help you be able to play whatever genre, or songs you like. Read More

Practice Practice Practice! and wanting to practice. Probably the most important thing in music at first. The biggest problem is method in itself. There is not just one way to teach everyone. Music is a lifelong study. It never ends. So learning should be the encouragement of accomplishment. Which has to involve learning some theory but focus on mechanical and listening skills as well. Whether we practice the same drum beat over and over or strumming the same chords its here that we find what we call music. Read More

Typically I like to using songs and common chord progressions and incorporate different skills we are working on into songs. This way the student learns a repertoire while learning skills. However this is up for debate and we can cover whatever the student desires. Often times teachers teach a blanket method using certain scales, chords, ect, expecting that this will miraculously result in the improvement the student desires. I am firm believer that this is not the case. Read More
