I am an upbeat energetic teacher who loves music and loves teaching. I have played saxophone since I was 8 years old, and I am now in my late 50's. I play professionally for many local Denver bands including jazz, blues, pop, contemporary, and have my own music business to play events at weddings, parties etc. I have traveled The Noreweign Cruise ships twice on jazz cruises and had the opportunity to play with the famous bassist Rufus Reed and saxophonist Lou Donaldson. My teaching experience began during my undergraduate studies. Instructing privately, I developed exposure teaching classical, electric, and acoustic musical styles. During my assistantship at the Lamont School of music, my teaching resided primarily toward college students. However, I am truly passionate towards working with students of all ages. I fully welcome the new challenges each experience presents. I believe every teacher should recall this wisdom from guitarist Andres Segovia: "To teach is to learn twice." Read More

I began teaching music at the age of 15, primarily guitar and piano lessons for beginners ages 7-14 in my hometown of Parker, CO. At 16 I began teaching my students basic music theory and intermediate instrumental instruction. I moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, still actively teaching throughout my curriculum. I have now taught over 200 students ages 4 to 64 a wide variety of music-related subjects, including: piano, guitar, bass, voice, music theory, D.A.W. and notation software, and contemporary songwriting. For beginning students I typicaly start with a introduction book like Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book 1 for younger students, and Solo Guitar Playing book 1 by Fredrick Noad for older and experienced students. Once fundamental techniques are acquired, I introduce repertoire suited for each student and they can participate in a performance. For older students I will work on the music they are interested in and integrate challenging material accordingly to keep lessons engaging and fun. Read More

For my beginning students who are children, I like to start with Alfred's Music books based on the instrument they choose. They are specific, yet easy for kids to follow along with, and encourage practicing by making each song fun. For adults, we journey into what the student is interested in or inspired by, and then I guide my instruction accordingly to keep our lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
