I earned my Associates Degree in 1984, in Music Performance, from Community College of Rhode Island. I've been playing bass guitar and double bass, professionally for over 35 years in various bands, groups, orchestras and with international stars such as Ray Charles and Andrea Bocelli. I've played in locations such as Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Maryland, New Jersey, and as far west as Chicago an Detriot. I have a lifelong passion for music, with my passion being in drumming and percussion but having a great deal of experience in trombone and a strong knowledge of guitar as well.  I graduated from Wesleyan University in 2008 with Honors in Music.  I have just recently traveled to Ghana for a 10-month trip to study traditional drumming, Afrobeat drum set style, and more. My teaching style stems from my philosophy that music is a language. So my approach is focused on using the skills and knowledge while "speaking", or playing, with other musicians. That is why my approach is focused on jamming. After the student can understand how to make the instrument sound, I immediately give them the oppertunity to put their skills into practice. For over 47 years I have played and instructed guitar. I began playing back in September of 1967 at the age of 10, on an inexpensive acoustic guitar purchased by my father from a pawn shop. I am self taught and learned to play by watching other guitarists, reading guitar instructional books, and listening to record albums. I have been a self-taught, hobby guitar player for over 20 years. I am heavily influenced by Rock, and Blues guitarists, but I am also a fan of Classical Flamenco guitar. I have been teaching beginner guitar and Music Theory for a little over 1 year. I enjoy teaching beginner and intermediate guitar students of all ages. I can teach you the basics of tuning your guitar, memorization of the fretboard, proper fingering and hand positions, as well as written music theory concepts and how they apply to the guitar neck. I currently use Piano Adventures Lesson and Theory books for beginner students. I have also used the Alfred series and really like the Finger Power series, too. Fundamentals of music theory is extremely important for new students of any age. I ask students to use the Music Tutor App to help them learn note names for the treble and bass clefs, and they learn by playing a fun game. We sometimes have competitions with siblings to see who can get the highest score! Read More
