Instruments: Guitar Trombone Drums Orchestral Percussion Djembe
For students who are young with no musical background I start with the Essential Elements series. At the next stage, I challenge the student based on their interests. I tend to push students to learn jazz, as its the basis for all drum set playing, but know that most kids are more interested in other more modern styles and accommodate them accordingly. I have a number of books that I can draw from, including Jim Chapin's jazz book, Syncopation, New Breed, Buddy Rich's book, and many more.. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I will work with any materials my students bring to their lessons. I am familiar with many different series of method books (Faber, Bastien, Piano Town, Thompson, etc.), but will determine what the student needs based on their age and how much they know about music in general. Some school-aged children may have been exposed to music classes before they come to me. I am happy to hear about any school district that has chosen not to cut music education from its curriculum! Instruments: Flute
I absolutely love teaching and have a strong passion for my students to succeed in whatever they want to do with the instrument. My teaching is very free, but at the same time quite strict. I can give the student all the tools they need not only to be successful with the instrument but hopefully fall in love with it, as I have. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
For beginners, I use Rebecca Simonfalvi's called "Potential Contender." It is geared for young children starting out in band. For adults, I generally move between Trevor Wye's "Beginners book for the flute" or the Rubank Elementary Method. If needed, especially with the young, I generally have my students take notes of lessons. I also teach basic theory to give students a deeper understanding of the music. For the advanced student, the focus becomes about fine-tuning fundamentals, and learning repertoire that will propel them forward to the next level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Music Keyboard
I have been teaching the piano for life. I started teaching when I was at conservatory as a Kawaii piano instructor. I also start performing as a pianist and singer pianist while in college. I continued to teach and perform after graduating from college. With decades of teaching experience, I have developed efficient and effective curriculums that students can learn properly and quickly. I focus on maximizing each student's capability while building a solid musical foundation so that the student can enjoy and share music for life. Read More
Instruments: Clarinet
The one thing I love teaching is watching my students grow. I believe music should be fun not boring having to practice 2 hours every day. I encourage students to to have fun during lessons and individual practice. I like to push my students to their limit. If the student is pushed to his/her limit, it will motivate them to work harder. Also, I like to ask what the student's goal is. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute
I like to start from the ground up, which means I start with Music Theory. Yes starting off with learning how to play the instrument is great but, if you don't know what you're doing while you're blowing then whats the point? Read More
