For Adults or people that have been playing a few years the lessons become much more specialized and tailored to the individuals interests and musical needs. My teaching style stems from my philosophy that music is a language. So my approach is focused on using the skills and knowledge while "speaking", or playing, with other musicians. That is why my approach is focused on jamming. After the student can understand how to make the instrument sound, I immediately give them the oppertunity to put their skills into practice. In teaching my students, I prefer to teach them to "play by ear", because when they learn chords and songs, they are usually able to play a snog by memory after hearing it a time or two. I not only show them the chords, fret board, how to hold the guitar properly, how to tune the guitar; etc. but, I also issue them handouts of guitar chord illustrations, fret board charts, and chord changes with words to songs for them to practice on between lessons. Lastly, support and accountability are also integral parts of my teaching style. Even in individual lessons, I foster a supportive environment, offering resources like mp3 practice tracks, youtube videos, and other homework to keep students engaged and track their progress. I also provide regular feedback and encouragement to ensure continuous improvement.
